Many fans of this fascinating and horrific series, no doubt excited by the new anime season, seem to be waxing lyrical about the manga. Having got through 92 issues of this interesting world, I feel that the quality has been slowly trending downhill since this moment:
The most odd and anticlimactic reveal possible in a series which until that point had given hit after hit. I remember those first issues, the real feeling of dread when encountering Titans, the mysteries, the pacing of the story, the political hints, the cliffhangers at the end of every issue. Almost everything just seems to have faded away after that, and even the political story at the moment seems very ham-fisted, with broad brush strokes and characterisation which pales into comparison with the early Survey Corps era.
Now my Manga tastes don’t usually venture beyond Naoki Urasawa and Junji Ito so maybe I’m spoilt by tight plotting and consistent (I NEED TO READ THE NEXT ISSUE)-ness but Shingeki No Kyojin has really, really lost its way. I still want to read it to see how certain things tie up, but I just wanted to see if anyone agrees with me here?
