Holodance: Dancing with Dragons in Virtual Reality!

Rhythm-based VR fitness games are ubiquitous, but each one seems to have its own niche feature. Holodance has dragons.

No seriously, it’s also very good. The rhythm mechanic rivals other VR rhythm fitness games: Audioshield, Beats Fever and Soundboxing.

Sairento: VR Ninja Skills with bullet-time.

This is a very ambitious game, with certain elements that can only be described as pure joy (the slow-motion/bullet-time). Mechanics for both sword and gun components are richly satisfying, and it compares well to Raw Data from Survios.

Nevertheless, it is a resources hog, and my graphics card perhaps wasn’t powerful enough to play it for sustained periods without stalling.

Smashbox Arena: Fun, FUN VR Dodgeball! | HTC Vive Virtual Reality Lets Play and Review

Smashbox Arena is a fun dodgebally shooty kinda game with alien pears. It comes into its own with the multiplayer, but even the single player is lots of fun. This video shows my first impressions.

Dead Hungry VR: Burger van for zombies! | HTC Vive Virtual Reality Lets Play and Review (Doctor Yak)

Flipping burgers for a horde of ravenous zombies is as intense as it sounds! But they want more, so you have to get the french fries, tempura prawns, pizzas and soft drinks ready as well. This is a fun, if slightly stressful, calorie burner for the HTC Vive!

Mount Wingsuit – Crazy VR wingsuiting!

Jumping down a mountain winged like Icarus is something a lot of us want to try, but logistics and fatality statistics get in the way. This VR game brings the experience to anyone who has a headset, but is it immune from the nausea which arises with a number of motion-based games on the Vive?

Blue Effect – A very unsettling Virtual Reality sci-fi/horror shooter! Not for the faint-hearted

This is an immensely unsettling Sci-FI themes VR horror game. My average heart rate (below) is more likely this high because I was persistently in a state of dread. The enemies are only robots/drones, but you can’t imagine how scary they are in Virtual reality with atmospheric visual and sound effects. Who needs zombies.

Highly recommended for people who don’t have any heart arrhythmias!
